Invest in energy-efficient upgrades with a Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant

The South Australian Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant, part of the $154 million Economic Recovery Fund by the Malinauskas SA Government, was launched on August 27th to help reduce energy costs for small businesses. Offering grants between $2,500 and $50,000 until November 29th or funds depletion, the initiative supports energy-efficient upgrades like solar panels, battery systems, and improved HVAC systems. Aimed at assisting approximately 8,000 small businesses and not-for-profits, this program not only aims to lower energy bills but also encourages sustainable practices.

Program Overview

Total Funding Available: $20 million is allocated for the 2024-2025 funding round. Grant Amounts: Grants range from $2,500 to $50,000 per eligible business, tailored to the size of the project and the proposed energy efficiency improvements.

Applicant Contribution: Eligible businesses are required to provide a 50% co-contribution, matching the grant funds dollar-for-dollar for their energy-efficient upgrades.

Application Deadline: Applications remain open until November 29, 2024, or until the funds are fully distributed.

Administered by: The Office for Small and Family Business, under the South Australian Government.

Eligibility Criteria for the Small Business Grant

Australian Business Number (ABN): Must have a valid ABN.

GST Registration: Required, except for certain not-for-profit organizations.

Location: Business must be located and operational within South Australia.

Property Ownership or Lease: Must own or lease the premises where the upgrades will be implemented.

Co-Contribution: Must be able to match at least 50% of the project cost.

Additional Eligibility Requirements: Electricity Consumption: Must be a small business electricity customer consuming less than 160MWh per year, or

Payroll: Must have an Australia-wide grouped payroll of less than $1.5 million in the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Eligible Projects and Equipment

Power Supply and Generation: Solar panels, battery storage, and voltage optimisation.

Lighting and Electrical: LED upgrades, automatic controls, motion sensors, and smart power strips.

Appliances(4-Star Rating or Better): Energy-efficient air conditioners, refrigerators, dishwashers, and laundry equipment.

HVAC and Refrigeration: System upgrades, refrigeration controls, and heat pump installations.

Water Heating: Solar and heat pump water systems, along with insulation enhancements.

Motors and Pumps: High-efficiency motors and variable speed drives.

Building Upgrades: Insulation, window shading, draught-proofing, and energy-efficient doors and windows.

Automation and Controls: Energy monitoring systems, building management systems
